The surplus points of Joomla for me are its rich features and simple layout configuration. While the weakness is the back end looks so complicated, especially for a beginner. Wordpress has more user-friendly interfaces.
Based on my experience, Joomla emphasize to create Section and Category before we can go to manage the article / content. This applies when we create an article, banners, even contact information. For example, we have to create Section "Basic", then create Category named "Installation" before creating an article titled "Installing a Web Server on Your Computer". This is carried out in order to make us easier to manage the page later.
After we have section and category, we can manage the layout displaying that topics via Menu Manager and Module Manager Menu (if the section/category is connected to a module).
So we can summarize the steps to display a page :
- Create Section and category for our articles
- Create the articles coresponding to the Section/Category we have created before
- Go to menu->menu->mainmenu, then create a new menu, define what kind of menu you want to use, for example, we want to make a menu that will display articles from a specific category, so we choose: articles-> category blog layout type, this is used to create menu that links to a page displaying articles based on the selected category.
- Set the name of the menu, select the category for this menu.
- You can control in what page this menu is displayed, or who can see it.
That's it, we have create a new page displaying certain category.
