Web Hosting and Its Types

Web hosting is a place to make the websites (or any web based application) connected to the network so that your application can be accessed from other computers. In the real world, a host is like an area you can rent to place your store. Sometimes, you have to pay, and the others provide it for free. In blogger.com, we can use it without a charge, but we have to use the engine (Content Management System) provided by blogger.com, if we have a registered domain called myname, we can change our address from myname.blogger.com to myname.com, with blogger.com as the web host. The other free web hosting companies provide only space for your files/applications, but the url address must be their subdomain.
In the other words, web hosting is an internet service that provides server for rent so that an individual or an organization able to place their information in the internet formed HTTP, FTP, Email, or DNS.

Types of web hosting :

1. Shared Hosting, it uses a server for many users, and many domains. Every user have their account with unique username and password

2. VPS, stand for Virtual Private Serveralso known as Virtual Dedicated Server. The concept is similar to a virtual machine. As an example for this concept, perhaps you know Java Runtime Environment, if you can install JRE on your operating System like Windows or Linux, you will be able to run java application on your computer. This allows the other operating systems to work 'inside' the another different operating system.

3. Dedicated Server, like its name, this server is used for a bigger application that cannot be operated on shared hosting or VPS. Server is provided by the hosting company.

4. Colocation Server is a place for rent where clients can put their own server. Server is provided by the clients.

Defining the suitable web hosting for your company
Before using web hosting service, there are 4 things you should consider:

1. The space and bandwith
The larger your files, the larger space you need, and more visitors you get, you need more bandwidths. For example, if every page size is 200kB, each time your single visitor open the page, it will consume 200kB of bandwiths. So consider the monthly bandwiths you need by calculating your page size.

2. Consider the services and features.
Perhaps you need your host to able to run java application, use mysql 6.x.x as the database, or php version 5.2.x. So consider about the offers.

3. Visitors Origin/Target Origin
If the target for your website is only your country, you may use local web hosting service to speed up the load. But if your target is US, choose the server in US.

4. Appropriate Price
Make sure the money you pay to the web hosting company is suitable to your needs and the benefit you get.
